People should be able to download music and films
in Australia from the Internet without paying for them.
This statement is quite controversial
due to:
1. Do people deserve to download
music and films for free when alot of the creator’s money has gone into the
making of this item?
2. If music and films were able to
be downloaded for free how would creators make their money?
3. Why only in Australia? What if
someone downloads an Australian film or music file in USA? Will they get it for
free?
4. Would we have to pay for other
countries files which do not have this law?
5. Would this ultimately stop
artists from creating better music or better films due to the cost they incur?
These items only touch on the
issue on hand as there are many more arguments that can be had that show
benefits and losses for both sides. The Copyright Act (1968) Section 10AA
states that “A copy of a sound recording is a non-infringing copy only if it is
made b y or with the consent of the owner of the copyright or related right in
the sound recording in the country which the copy was made OR the owner of the
copyright or related right in the sound recording in the country the original recording
was made or the maker of the sound recording” (http://www.austlii.edu.au/au/legis/cth/consol_act/ca1968133/s10aa.html).
It is very clear of the rights
and regulations involved in sharing, downloading and using a sound recording,
computer program and electronic literary or music item. I think people should
always have to pay to download music and films in Australia from the internet
as i think it is important that the work done by other people should be
acknowledged as their work and therefore paid for by the user. I also think it’s
important as it is a recognised industry and if people were to download for
free then the future of the industry will diminish and will lose credibility and
ultimately will lose people wanting to create music or films as there is no
incentive.
